Taboo

Yeah yeah, we know it isn't recommended for infants to sleep on their tummies because of the risk of SIDS but Natalie sleeps soooo much better this way. I think she sleeps for a max of 3 hours on her back, i.e. - less sleep for mommy, daddy, and baby nat. Tummy time is a win-win-win situation. She even slept for 6 hours straight last night. Now that's a record.

Blue Bottle Cafe is Open

Good coffee has always been a vice for me and I was delighted to hear that Blue Bottle finally opened a cafe in San Francisco. I first tried their drip coffee at kiosks at the Ferry Building and Berkeley Farmer's Market and have been a fanboy since. Aside from good 100% Kona, Blue Bottle articulates the perfect delivery of a good buzz.

$9 for fancy siphoned coffee? I was happy with my $2 drip.

Martin's no longer a Blue Bottle virgin.

Sleepy

After burping Natalie early this morning we both fell asleep again. Amy caught this quiet moment.

31 Days Later

Today is Natalie's 1-month birthday and sadly my paternity leave is winding down as well.

Dish It Deep

I made my first Chicago-style pizza today with my new deep dish pie pan.

I loaded up the pie with italian sausage, lots of basil, chunky plum tomatoes, baby spinach, 3 cloves of garlic, mozarella, and lots of romano.

My pie was ready after 45 minutes in the oven.

That's amore!

Separated at Birth?

Natalie loves to hold her right arm up against her head even from the first moment we could identify her arm and head in an ultrasound image. Even when her arm is tucked and swaddled tightly in her blanket it will magically appear after about an hour. It reminds me of a Maneki Neko statue that you'll frequently find in Asian restaurants and shops.

With Moustache Comes Great Responsibility

Last night on Family Guy Peter Griffin decided to grow a moustache to become more debonair and sophisticated. Me? I just figured I could while I was still on paternity leave.

Here's a BEFORE shot with shaggy hair and full goatee and 'stache. Yeah yeah, I know it just looks like dirt on my face...

And here are 2 AFTER shots for fun (after my 'Heil Hitler!' moment it eventually all did come off)

Project 365

I've decided to commit myself to taking a photo a day for an entire year like my friend Jimmy. It's a pretty good exercise for any shutterbug wanting to take better shots all around. I've added a link to my photoblog on the right side of this blog.

Multitasking

Today I made several observations on fatherhood:
1. Sleep whenever you can.
2. Life is rewarding in so many new ways.
3. You will surely learn to multitask. I can simultaneously burp Natalie and play Scrabulous on Facebook. Sweet! 'OX' word combo for 39 points!

Let There Be Light

The ridiculous rainstorm in the Bay Area knocked out our power for about 24 hours between Friday and Saturday. Diaper duty was no chore with my handy dandy headlight.

Baby Nat says bye to Auntie Bridget as she heads back down to UCLA now that Winter Break is over.

Natalie's umbilical cord stump finally fell off (we actually lost it) and she was able to take her first bath.

Natalie was so amenable after her bath!

Natalie's Up!

I was able to get in a few shots while Natalie was still awake...

yep, she's definitely a Canon baby.

Thanks for stopping by Auntie Jenny!
